Questions You Should Be Asking Your Budtender
A trip to the dispensary brings on that “kid in a candy store” feeling (I’ll spare you the Willie Wonka comparison here but IYKYK…).
But with so many different brands, ways to consume, & THC percentages being shoved in your face, how do you know you’re getting something you’ll really enjoy?
You need to know what to ask.
Here’s 10 questions that will help you walk away from the dispensary with products you’ll love.
Is this lab tested & can I see the Certificate of Analysis (COA)?
COA stands for Certificate of Analysis, a document from a third-party lab that shows the purity & potency of your weed.
Having all the info on your cannabis is helpful to determine your experience as well as how safe it is for consumption.
What’s fresh today?
This is fairly obvious… fresh weed is delicious weed.
Plus you want it fresh for the same reasons you want your veggies fresh, better taste & high plus no mold growth.
Is this sun grown or indoor?
To be clear, this is about your preference. One isn’t necessarily better than the other.
Indoor grows have more control & consistency over things like lighting, temperature, and pests.
Outdoor grows use less energy, making it more environmentally friendly. Plus, some research has shown that the sun increases the growth of cannabis compounds (aka the good stuff).
What are your best sellers?
Another obvious one, but checking out the best sellers can lead you to well-loved & effective products.
Do you have anything that smells like…?
If you haven’t heard yet, terpenes are important when it comes to your cannabis experience. And terps provide the smell for your cannabis.
If you don’t know what exact terpene to ask for, ask for weed that smells like a strain you love or a familiar smell. The budtender can lead you to similar smells & terps in their products.
Where does your cannabis come from?
Learn what you can about where & how your cannabis was grown. This can help you find growers you trust who use a grow process you agree with.
Also, locally grown cannabis will be fresh, and buying it supports your community.
How are your edibles made/concentrates extracted?
The process of making edibles may seem straightforward but some places use a technique where cannabinoids and chemicals are sprayed onto the edible (usually gummies). Often the effects of this aren’t pleasant.
Concentrates are extracted through a solvent-based (with chemicals) process or a solventless (without chemicals) process. Either process is perfectly fine but be sure all the chemicals have been filtered out of the final product.
What do you recommend for an active day? Or for sleep?
Budtenders have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to their products’ effects.
While they may not be the best source for specific medical recommendations (see a doc or holistic practitioner for that), they know what products can boost you up before a hike or calm you down for bedtime.
What do you have that is similar to…?
Have a product you know you love but this dispensary doesn’t carry it? Ask for something similar.
Do you have any deals or sales going on?
Don’t go buying a cannabis product that’s on sale just because it’s a deal. But if you find something you actually want to try and you can get a deal, why the hell not?
